Insurance Options for Visitors to Canada

VTC Blog Image - May 2022

Each year, Canada welcomes visitors from all over the world. Whether these visitors to Canada are coming to Canada as a tourist, to visit family for an extended period of time, to study, or to make Canada their new home – visitors to Canada insurance is a must!

Visitors to Canada are not covered under Canada’s universal healthcare system and those who are immigrating to Canada may be subject to a waiting period before they are eligible for their Government Health Insurance Plan (GHIP). This means that if a visitor to Canada falls ill or has an accident, they would have to pay for the emergency medical costs out-of-pocket. These costs of medical care in Canada can be very expensive and financially devastating to families.

To help provide financial protection, it is highly recommended, and sometimes mandatory for a visitor to purchase visitors to Canada insurance. These plans provide coverage for a sudden and unforeseen accident or illness.

Travelance is a Canadian insurance distributor, providing visitors to Canada insurance and super visa insurance through two plans – Visitors to Canada Emergency Medical Insurance Essential Plan and Visitors to Canada Emergency Medical Insurance Premier Plan. Both plans provide the coverage required to meet the super visa insurance requirements, when purchased according to Canadian government requirements.

Both plans offer four sum insured options: $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, and $150,000, along with a $0 base deductible and five additional deductible options for additional premium savings. Those travelling as a family (a single adult or couple travelling with one or more child or grandchild) are eligible for a family rate, which is calculated at two times the eldest traveller’s premium.
